All victims of Boulder Pearl Street attack expected to survive, Boulder police chief says

DENVER — Everyone injured Sunday in a Molotov cocktail attack on people raising awareness of Israeli hostages on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall is expected to survive, Boulder police Chief Stephen Redfearn said Tuesday.

Three of the 12 victims were still being treated at UCHealth University of Colorado’s burn unit Tuesday, according to hospital spokesperson Alli Witzman. She was unable to give an update on the victims’ conditions because of patient confidentiality.

Redfearn said the remaining patients are being treated for “pretty serious burns.”

“It’s a pretty terrible injury to have,” Redfearn said. “I can’t imagine what they’re going through.”

The victims were identified Sunday night as four men and four women between the ages of 52 and 88, according to Boulder police and the FBI. However, four additional victims have since come forward. The age range is now 25 to 88, according to Boulder Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Jamie Barker.

The attack, which federal officials have characterized as a “targeted act of violence” and terrorism, happened at 1:26 p.m. on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall as the city’s chapter of Run for Their Lives arrived outside the Boulder County Historic Courthouse during its weekly demonstration walk.

Run for Their Lives is a national movement calling for the release of Israeli hostages held by the terrorist group Hamas.

Following the attack, police arrested Mohammed Soliman, 45, who has been charged with a federal hate crime and is facing 42 state charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
