ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Family members and friends gathered at Rockford Police Department District 3 to memorialize Darian Bunnell on Friday.

Bunnell was shot and killed in January on Javelin Drive.

The 22-year-old was known around Rockford for running his own clothing business. He is survived by his mother and daughter.

His mother implored the community to put down the guns during the gathering.

“My son is not the only one who has been killed here in this town by gun violence. I just believe that somebody needs to make a stand, somehow, someway, to stop this,” said Amber Sallis. “The community needs to come together maybe, build something for these kids so they have something to do other than play with guns.”

According to Rockford Police, the incident happened in the 4800 block of Javelin around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 18th.

Bunnell was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead later that night, at 10:53 p.m.

Sincer Burns, 20, was identified as a suspect and arrested on Thursday, February 20th.

He faces two counts of First Degree Murder and was booked into the Winnebago County Jail awaiting the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
